First round chemo- St George's

I know the "Blog Manager", the lovely God-daughter, Tobina, sent a brief post on the blog page yesterday, but this is the real thing from the horse's mouth!   For some reason I cannot access the blog page from my ancient I-Pad, nor can I update the mailing list, so am just sending an ordinary e-mail and Tobina and I will sort out the gremlins later on.

I have been an in-patient here at St George's, Tooting since last Sunday evening.  Had
the PICC line put in on Monday.  That will stay in place for the duration of the chemo and means they don't have to keep jabbing me with needles and canulas.  Started chemo at 1pm on Tuesday and it went on until about 4.  Then I started vomiting which is not unusual.  Unfortunately it carried on through Wed and so a decision was made to give me the anti-sickness meds intravenously as I was bringing up all the pills.   More or less settled now, but still very nauseous - can just manage a piece of dry toast now and then.  I sleep more or less the whole day.   They are talking about next Tuesday for discharge but this will depend on whether I am eating and drinking normally.  Everything is fine at home and I have appointed Tim S-H as Cat Manager for the little boys.

At this very moment I should be heading for St Pancras to catch Eurostar to Paris.  My last God-child (the 10th) is to be married there tomorrow.  Boo hoo that I cannot be there.

I am being looked after very well and am gobsmacked by the quality of care here.  Everyone so efficient, professional and good natured with it.  I am in a room with 3 other patients.  One of them is so rude and bad-tempered I am quite embarrassed by her behaviour, but the nurses just take it on the nose and keep going and we wink at each other.

I shall be glad when the nausea has worn off, and so far I still have my hair.
